What Is the Downtown Missoula Business Improvement District (BID)?

The Downtown Business Improvement District of Missoula (BID) enhances the vitality of Downtown Missoula by facilitating commerce, promoting investment, enhancing streetscapes, conducting maintenance, and improving security and safety for the Downtown Business District, the City of Missoula, and the people of Montana.
The Business Improvement District is overseen by the Downtown Missoula Partnership and the BID Board of Directors, consisting of seven property owners and community members in the Downtown district.
What Programs Does the Downtown Missoula BID Oversee?
With a focus on clean, safe, and economic vitality, the BID is responsible for funding and executing the following initiatives:
- Downtown garbage and recycling receptacle installation and pickup.
- Graffiti removal
- Downtown maintenance and upkeep led by the Clean Team
- Downtown Dedicated Police Officers
- Winter snow plowing and removal
- Business development initiatives in partnership with the Missoula Economic Partnership (MEP)
When Was the Downtown Missoula BID Formed?
The Downtown Business Improvement District was created in 2005 to unify Missoula Downtown property owners regarding the maintenance and management of Downtown’s common-area space. In 2020, the BID Assessment was renewed for another ten years by a vote of Downtown property owners and approved by the Missoula City Council.
The Downtown Business Improvement District is an official branch of the Downtown Missoula Partnership, supporting its own initiatives as well as the Partnership’s broader efforts and activities that enhance the Downtown Missoula district.
