Small Business Saturday Starts the Holiday Season in Downtown Missoula
SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY STARTS THE HOLIDAY SEASON IN DOWNTOWN MISSOULA
The holiday season kicks off officially in Downtown Missoula with Small Business Saturday on November 30. Entering its 15th year, Small Business Saturday has grown into a full-scale, nation-wide event where communities are asked to support the locally-owned businesses that are at the heart of the local economy. Missoulians are encouraged to “Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is” by heading to Downtown for shopping, dining, and professional services needs during the holidays.
Supporting local businesses during Small Business Saturday, and beyond, makes a significant impact by helping to keep dollars circulating in the local economy. It’s estimated that for every dollar spent at a local business, $0.68 stays in the community. Supporting our neighbors and friends who own local businesses provides resources to those who support our local non-profits, schools, sports teams, and community initiatives. Spending money with small businesses in Missoula means those businesses can keep their doors open, their people employed, and support their families.
Alongside over 200 small restaurants, retail stores, and other businesses, the Missoula Downtown Association (MDA) will be welcoming those who join in the “Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is” movement during Small Business Saturday with the Shop & Dine Local Headquarters. Open from 10 am-2 pm, those who stop by the headquarters – located in front of the Paddleheads Post (140 N. Higgins) – will be greeted with coupons for complimentary hot chocolate, branded shopping bags, and handouts with Downtown’s special happenings during Small Business Saturday.
As the community enjoys local shopping and dining during the holidays, another way to support Downtown’s businesses is through the Missoula Downtown Gift Card. Accepted at over 200 locations, it’s the most versatile gift in Missoula. In 2023, over $540,000 in Downtown gift cards were sold, which means over half a million dollars will circulate among local businesses when the gift cards are redeemed. Missoula Downtown Gift Cards can be purchased at the Downtown Missoula Partnership (218 E. Main), the Paddleheads Post (140 N. Higgins), or online at missouladowntown.com/downtown-gift-cards/.
Adding to the holiday season atmosphere, the Downtown Missoula Window Decorating Contest will be open for public voting starting Friday, Nov. 29, and continuing through Wednesday, Dec. 18. It’s a great opportunity to walk around and enjoy holiday decorations with friends and family.
