Brennan's Wave An Icon of Downtown Missoula
Brennan’s Wave is a man-made surfing wave alongside Caras Park on the Clark Fork River. The Wave was originally built in 2002 to commemorate Brennan Guth, an avid kayaker who passed away that same year in Chile.
Brennan’s Wave is an iconic Missoula location that draws surfers of all ages to take turns on the river. It also attracts a daily crowd of spectators. For those floating the river, the especially ambitious may try their luck on the wave with a tube or paddleboard.
The Riverfront Terrace at Brennan’s Wave
Brennan’s Wave and the Caras Park riverfront recently saw an exciting renovation with the new Riverfront Terrace at Brennan’s Wave. The project added a brand-new ADA ramp, an observation deck, a seating area, new landscaping, and overall improved access to the river.
Since the opening of the Riverfront Terrace in 2025, the riverside has come alive with even more activity. Surfers, market-goers, and passersby can now enjoy the river views and interact with the landscape more than ever before.
This project was completed by Dick Anderson Construction and funded with support from the Missoula Downtown Foundation, Parks & Recreation, the Missoula Redevelopment Agency, and a $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration. Learn more about this project here.
