President’s Article: Lucky to be a Missoulian

Lucky to be a Missoulian!

Josh Eder, MDA President

As the month of March comes upon us, it’s hard to believe that Spring in Missoula is just around the corner! In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on how lucky we are to live in Missoula.

According to a study by 24/7 Wall St. conducted in July of 2021, Missoula’s metro area is the fastest growing in Montana. Our population grew by 11.3% from 2010 to 2020. Clearly, people around the US have caught on that Missoula is the place to be!

Looking for a place to hike? The AllTrails app can find you over 65 scenic trails in the Missoula area. Want to ski? There are 7 incredible places to ski – all within 200 miles. Afternoon at the park? Missoula County Parks, Trails, and Open Lands manages 91 parks and more than 40 miles of shared-use paths and trails. Brews? Montana ranks No. 2 in America for craft breweries per capita, and a lot of that brewing takes place right here in Missoula.

With all these activities, it’s hard to believe that they’re not even the best part of living here! To many Missoulians – new and old – our city’s sense of community and the camaraderie of our citizens is what drove their decision to make the move.

How lucky are we?

As COVID-19 case numbers continue to decrease, we recognize that a lot of Missoula citizens are ready to reconnect and get involved in community events. If this year’s sold-out Winter BrewFest was any indication, Missoulians were ready to get back to the events they’ve grown to love in our community pre-pandemic. That, and we really love beer.

Garden City BrewFest (May 7th, mark your calendars!), Downtown ToNight, Out-to-Lunch, and all your favorite MDA spring and summer functions will be here before you know it! In the meantime, consider joining us for our regularly scheduled MDA member luncheons and Downtown on Tap – we’d love to see you!
