Since its existence along the historic Mullan Road\, Front Street has been dubbed with the title of Missoula’s ‘red light district’ implicating that district remained a place of vice\, sin\, and corruption influenced by the radical reformist religious movements of the late 19th century. However\, violence and addiction found throughout the entirety of the American West remain only a sliver of the true story. \nFrom 1889-1917\, West Front and Main Streets became home to a vibrant ‘restricted’ community of working women\, Chinese laborers\, African American soldiers\, and immigrants who built the environment we as Missoulians have come to love today. This tour discusses the district through the historical lenses of sex\, race\, class\, and occupation in order to create a broader social understanding against the backdrop of the remaining built environment. \n6:30pm – Carnal Enterprises Tour: \nMeet promptly at The Wilma Theatre for the tour start @6:30pm \n7:30pm – Dinner at the Stables:\n\nPaté Duo\nCountry style paté\, Chicken liver paté\, herbed goat\, pickled fennel\, toasted baguette\nBeef Burgundy\nBurgundy braised beef\, saffron risotto\, vegetables\nButterscotch Creme brûlée\nShortbread cookies\, berry coulis\n\n  \n(vegetarian option upon request)

SUMMARY:Spirit of Place Heritage Tour & Dinner: SOLD OUT!
DESCRIPTION:Downtown Missoula is many things to many people. It is a crossroads and a gathering place. It is the homeland of the Salish people and a haven for artists and students. It is buildings made of local brick alongside marble and granite courthouses. It is a story of displacement\, growth\, and perseverance. At the root of this place is Downtown Missoula’s heritage. We consider “heritage” to be the collective fabric that defines and distinguishes Missoula. It is the spirit of place. It is how Missoula sounds\, looks\, smells and feels. It is what makes Missoula\, Missoula. Experience the spirit of place first hand through being one of the first to walk the Downtown Missoula Heritage Legacy Trail! \nAn ambitious public history project in itself\, the Missoula Downtown foundation is working on producing an established heritage trail in Downtown Missoula. These heritage trails provide clear direction for audiences to immerse themselves in heritage experiences. Notable examples include the Boston Freedom Trail\, Rochester (NY) Heritage Trail\, and Cincinnati Brewing Heritage Trail. Heritage trails differ from published walking tours alone in that they lead audiences with physical guidance such as sidewalk lines\, medallions/markers\, or both. In Downtown Missoula\, we are fabricating sidewalk medallions and currently working on wayfinding kiosks that will have interpretive panels on one side to start guiding the interpretive trail. \nThis tour will begin in Caras Park and will showcase the Legacy Trail for the first time to the Missoula community. This tour will be approximately 1.5 hours and will culminate at Scotty’s Table\, a Downtown staple. This ticket includes the tour and an exclusive fine-dining experience\, including salad\, main entrée\, dessert and an alcohol beverage. Revenues generated from this will be invested in completing the Heritage Missoula Legacy Trail\, located in Downtown Missoula. \nMenu:\nChoice of salad:\nMixed greens with basil-mustard vinaigrette\, pickled beets and almonds\,\nor\nScotty’s Caesars salad\nEntrée:\nChicken Souvlaki\, local chicken breast\, grilled\, served over bed of hummus\, Jasmine rice and Traditional greek salad\nVegetarian : Pan seared polenta\, cashew red pepper crema\, sautéed and grilled local vegetables\, parmesan cheese\nDessert:\nPlum torte\, vanilla bean ice cream
