Downtown Missoula is Important for our Quality of Life

  • The health of Downtown is a symbol of:
      A Healthy Economy

      Local Pride
Quality of Business & Employment Life
  • Downtown is the heart of community government, business, culture and entertainment.
  • Downtown is a unique gathering place for all residents and visitors.
  • Downtown business keeps money in the local economy.
  • Downtown’s health impacts surrounding residential neighborhoods.
  • Downtown is a good incubator for new small businesses—the successes of tomorrow.
  • Local independent businesses support local community projects.
  • Downtown businesses employ thousands of Missoulians.
  • Downtown brings people together and helps build a stronger community.

The Missoula Downtown Association

  • Is an organization comprised of its membership: people who are proud, people who are dedicated, people who work together.
  • Encourages historical preservation and enhancement of the area’s physical beauty.
  • Creates a unique ambiance in Downtown Missoula through support of the Riverfront Trail development, management of Caras Park, creation and maintenance of banners, flower baskets, American flags and holiday decorations.
  • Maintains and leases the Caras Park Pavilion for community events.
  • Organizes and sponsors Out to Lunch and Downtown ToNight, Missoula’s favorite weekly summer series.
  • Serves as a political advocate, striving to maintain open communications with city government and community organizations.
  • Programs and services are funded by membership dues and Board-sponsored fundraising events.

The Missoula Downtown Association originally formed as a committee of Chamber of Commerce, the Missoula Retailers in 1957. In 1975, the committee separated from the Chamber and created the Downtown Merchants Association. In reaction to changes in the Missoula community and the decline of Downtown, in 1981 the Association reorganized and broadened its membership and mission to represent the widening range of businesses in the area, becoming the Missoula Downtown Association.
